you're a sweetheart, give-away

Last week, my sister and I sat with my mom in the hospital while she slowly recovered. She was so sick. Her new iPad from Christmas kept 'chiming' with an amazing overflow of love. People who cared passed the word. Messages and emails from friends near and far, some from grade school, high school, college, and the old neighborhood, all sent their love, support, and prayers. Each and every one of them put a smile on my heartbroken mom's face.

Many spoke of how kind my dad was to them, how he went out of his way to listen, and really get to know them...

And, so many sweet friends stepped in to help my husband with the girls while I was in Florida. Delicious dinners arrived, rides to-and-from activities were provided, phone calls aplenty, heart-felt cards, afternoons spent baking, and even help with an important doctor's appointment.

When I shared the news about my dad here, all of your sweet comments really touched my heart. My mom read them all, and was amazed that people all over the world cared so much.

As Valentine's Day is swiftly approaching, I think it's time for me to express my gratitude. I've a bunch of crafty supplies just waiting for your Valentine crafts. Heart shaped doilies, cute striped paper straws, vintage 'inspired' valentines, a pack of pretty buttons, heart shaped pins, a simple burlap bunting, and a beribboned Happy Valentine's Day sign.

If you'd like to share one nice thing you've done recently or something you've said that brightened someone's day... you're entered. That's it.

If you're, by any chance, a follower of birdie blue, mention it for another chance.

A random winner will be chosen on Sunday,  February 3rd.
Leaving you plenty of time to get your Valentine's day craft on.

I was dropping off my daughter at school a few weeks ago when one of her classmates crossed in front of my car and made a point of waiting until I was looking and waved and smiled at me. Mind you, this was a 13-year-old boy, so I raced home and emailed his mother to let her know that he'd made my day. That made HER day! :)

Lovely give away, how kind. Recently I have stepped up for a few people. See this March marks two years since I lost my precious eldest son who had a tragic accident, it has been extremly hard as you can imagine to do much of anything. However, recently I felt the need to be the support to a family in crisis facing loosing their home. The family had to downsize and for the mom and children it was very hard. On moving day I unpacked the entire day for them, hanging up pictures and such, anything I could to make their new home as welcoming as it could. The next day I did the same. I know it wasn't much but I know it made the kids feel better to see that regardless of their new home they still brought parts of the old with them as well as all the traditions and such. A year ago I could barely have done this so this was a baby step for me as well. Yep, am a follower too! Sometimes you think if you can't write a check you aren't doing enough but its those little things that often mean so much more!! Lori

It's the little things that mean the most, that make someone's day a little bit brighter. On Sunday, I went to my son and his girlfriend's place, and did 2 overflowing sinkfuls of dishes--by hand (they have no dishwasher). Then my hubby made supper for all of us. We had a great family day!

Today I mailed a handwritten thank you note to a church friend who recently lost his father. (His loss wasn't as sudden as yours, but I know his grief is the same.)

I hope that I brighten the day of my (grown) at home sons everyday! I try to surprise them with homebaked goodies, there favorite meal or just a funny emailed picture. They are my life and I want them to know it!

Hi Molly. I have quietly follows your families sad happenings for a while now. Im so sorry but I have been touched by your braveness. I am looking after my elderly Aunt at the moment. Her own children are very selfish and self centred and they dont know loss yet. I think they believe that their mum will go on forever. Sending lots of love to you and your family. Xxx julie

Glad your mom has so many who cares and they SHOW it! Hoping she is on the mend and back home soon. I recently sent a little "just because your my pal" box filled with little fun things, some I made, some I'd collected for her. I sent it when I knew she was having a tough time and I hoped it would put a bright spot in her day. She was really surprised and I don't think I could have had better timing. Sometimes I know some of us have absolutely no support, I just wanted her to know she was in my thoughts even if I could not be there. I'm already a follower. Thanks for sharing!

When I lost my Father eighteen months ago a new friend emailed me and told me I was in his prayers and once I was there I would always be there. I felt so blessed. When his Mother passed away recently I emailed him and told him that even though I didn't see him very often I understood his loss and he would always have a place in my heart. This man is pretty much alone in this world and I know he needs to know that someone will always be there for him.

A little boy with Autism in my daughter's first grade class was having a tough day when I saw him eating in the principal's office. I stopped in to tell the principal (within ear shot of the boy) what a great friend the boy was and how much my daughter enjoyed their friendship. He beamed:)

What a wonderful give away, and what a beautiful thought to let your readers/followers (of course I'm one of them!) tell about all the nice things they do. I believe I do good every day, I'm a daycare mum, and I receive and give so many sweet words each day ;)
I can't write this comment, without mentioning how sorry I am to her about your loss of your father.
Take care, from Ditte ;)

I wanted to belatedly express my condolences on the loss of your dad. You have suffered too many losses in the past few months; three parents is just too much. Deepest sympathies to you and your family.

As always, just looking at your giveaway is soothing due to your consistent use of "happy" colors. I also enjoy the new header.

I haven't been reaching out much these days because my own mother is in heart failure. It's been a harrowing January. I do try to repeatedly thank her caregivers for all the help they give her and me, singling out specific comforts they lend. I try not to let these things go unnoticed or taken for granted.

I told the kid at the pharmacy counter today that he looked cool, although I think his newly-shorn head looked awful (you know, how the young guys want to go for the bald look these days...). I held the door open at the post office, coming and going, for one lady with her hands full and another who was quite elderly. It was a rushed day and I confess to getting fast food on the way home (turkey burger and diet soda) but I do try to be polite when I order into the talk-box, saying please and thank you and May I have? In reply, the young man who took my money said it was his pleasure to serve me and I about fell out of my car seat since these kinds of manners are somewhat absent in today's customer service jobs.

I don't think common courtesy deserves a giveaway and my life is small (contained) right now with nothing exciting going on to really talk about here, but it's what I have to share at the moment.

Thank you for even posting when you've been having such a rough time (much less pulling off a giveaway!). I hope it's therapeutic. A limited amount of blogging definitely relaxes me at day's end when I need to decompress.

Heartfelt thoughts winging your way from all of your readers here...

Hello.I called the bus company to tell them how grateful I am for Lynne the school bus driver that safely brings my sweet boy to and from school. She goes the extra mile with the kids, dropping folders or mittens back off to homes that have been forgotten. She is so friendly and really cares about each one of them. This sure makes putting my child on the bus easier. The company was thrilled to hear good news, usually they only hear the bad she said. Lynne got a over the radio congrats! My thoughts are with you.

Dear Molly,
I am glad your mum is feeling better and that she has so much support from her family and friends.
This is a gorgeous and very generous giveaway. It is very nice of you to do this during this hard time in your life.
My granny passed away before Xmas and it was increadibly sad also.
Good things I've done recently? Looked after a friend's daughter when she was running late from work and couldn't pick her up from school, last week I gave my University lecture notes to a couple of friends that had missed the class.
Thanks very much and do keep strong!
Pati xx

What a lovely Valentine's give-away. I am a card sender for any and all occasions. Yesterday I mailed a few cards to friends "just because" I was thinking of them. Several were going through very tough times in their personal lives. I know that I love to receive hand written cards and it makes me happy to send them.
