feedsack quilt

On our recent trip, I told my Mom to plan on hitting the island's Twice Around Shop. She asked me what I was looking for, I told her I'd dearly love to find a vintage feedsack quilt.

'Feedsack? What's feedsack?' She logically wanted to know. I explained it as best I could- vintage material originally used to hold feed, flour, sugar, salt, and the like. Sometimes found with a ditsy, calico, flora-esque quality...  I told her she'd know it when she saw it.

While the Twice Around Shop holds treasures aplenty, no such quilt was to be found.

On our journey home through the Door County peninsula, we stopped in at a few antique stores (much to the girl's chagrin). The last one, desperately cluttered, and excessively hot on a 99 degree day without air conditioning, proved to be lucky for me.

One of the girls approached me carrying the heavy, almost king-size quilt, and said 'You wouldn't be interested in this would you? Good, let's go....'

'Not so fast', I managed to say. 'Let me look at it for a minute'.

Bob had spotted the girls hiding it behind a wicker hamper, hoping I wouldn't see it as they were anxious to leave and they thought it was too expensive. Bob knowing what I had in mind, sent them over. It needs a few small repairs, but it was pretty close to what I'd envisioned at a very reasonable price.

Moral of the story, don't let your girls precede you in an antique store or they might attempt to pre-edit the selections.

If anyone has any information regarding the quilt, fabric, or pattern- I'm all ears.

I love feedsack material and quilts and try to at least pick up the material whenever I can find it at a reasonable price. Your quilt is a dream! That was a good save on your husband's part to shoo the girls out of hiding to show you the treasure!

You know I love quilts. I'm not sure what this pattern is. It may be like lots of the quilts I've made. A bit of everything!

And on a side note... aren't we all secretly looking for such a treasure every visit to a thriftstore??

Also, we are planning a trip to Chicago again soon... end of September. I'll be in touch!

Wow, what a beauty; "your" colors, too! I'm no expert, but it almost looks like a mixture of patterns. There are the flags, but then don't I see wedding rings? Or is it a "crazy" quilt, which Mom described to me as all bits & pieces; hmmm, a bit of quilt research is needed here!

I am currently making a quilt by Sandy Klopp called Merry Go Round that is very similar! Her quilt may be made after your vintage quilt pattern, the hexagons blocks are just made using the fabric arranged differently!

It's beautiful. It's amazing how well those feedsack fabrics hold their color all those years, isn't it? You might try visiting some of the quilt blogs out there. Someone on one of those might be able to help you with more info.
Great score!!
Blessings,
Marcia

Not my blog but I'm going to make one just like this! Now I know what to do with all my feedsack prints!
Thanks for posting a pic of your quilt!

Not sure if this post is still active ,but I have this pattern in a quilt book. It is the hexagon. Called hexagon beauty. And I'm soon to start this one :) the book I have was printed in 1982,but it is an older pattern I believe. The book is " A Farm Journal Craft Book by Jean Gillies" hope that helps
