sweet sixteen

You were absolutely right. The white peonies bloomed just in time for the party. The only problem, that night it poured...

Morning found the white blooms, covered in mulch. The heavy rains caused the stems to bend, despite the metal peony frames.

I carefully washed each flower, much to the chagrin of various tiny insects. To be on the safe side, I washed each one, twice. If it's worth doing, it's worth over-doing.

Their scent, heaven sent. Much like my birthday girl.
We hosted her lovely friends at our local Paddle Tennis Club for paddle, dinner, and lemon cupcakes. The birthday girl's favorite.

Set-up and clean-up was a piece of cake. The girls seemed to really enjoy playing paddle. It's fun, fast, and easy to play. A hybrid mix of tennis, racquet ball, and ping pong.

Perfect for a pack of sixteen-year-old girls. A sweeter group of girls would be hard to find.

Do you think we had enough pizza?

You were wonderfully industrious and kind to salvage the peonies, and both they and the party food look exquisite.

Your white peony bouquets are the height of beauty, and the lemon cupcakes look delicious. A fun party to celebrate 16 years.

I didn't have a bad childhood, but there certainly was no Sweet 16 party (my mom is well-intentioned but has a tendency to cut corners). How wonderful for you to celebrate this occasion for your much-loved daughter. Everything was perfect. The salvaged flowers were sweet, the decorated table completely appropriate and appealing for their age group. Oh, if I'd had a daughter of my own, how I'd love to be able to do such things for her as you do yours!

As always with you, the colors and arrangements are pristine, coordinated/matched and just so very pleasing. I hope it gives you as much pleasure to do these things, as it is for the recipients, including us bloggers who get to peek in on the festivities. Love the cupcakes and the bagged treats. You made some wonderful memories for her (and for you!).

I absolutely love your blog. I enjoy coming here each week. You post just enough, not too much, with a variety of upbeat subjects. It's so visually clean and fresh. I'm betting you are a very calm and thoughtful person. With decor, you have a knack for being able to display nice things, fun things, but without nervous clutter. All positive vibes; restful, calming but not boring (precise, in a good way!). (I always like the simple terra cotta pots in the decorative rack against the exterior brick of your home, in the header; not expensive, but looks so fetching and so right. And, in general, you make good use of white; there's just nothing like white paint!

And it looks like you live in such a nice area of the country. A good place to raise your daughters. Most of all (and I don't mean this as a mommy-comparison study, for I think most moms try hard to do their best with what they have money-wise, time-wise, talent-wise), if I magically got a second chance at it, I'd ask for you as my back-up mom! You go one hundred extra miles for your kids and they will not forget. Thanks for taking the time with so many pretty posts for us. They're like tall, cool drinks of pure, sparkling water! (In polka-dotted, Cath Kidston glasses!!)

Wow! I can't even remember what I did on my sixteenth! It wasn't too terribly long ago, but I don't think it was a special event like your daughter's party was! she'll cherish these memories forever!
