charmed

Consider the charm bracelet. Quirky, colorful, and usually completely unique.  Laden with fond remembrances, sparkly charms, and sweet forget-me-nots. I collect them, and can usually be seen with one or two on my left wrist, accompanied by several beaded bracelets. The more the merrier.

A number of years ago, one of the stores I frequented for my girls, offered charms to match their various collections. For their birthdays, the girls each received a starter bracelet and a couple of charms. I decided I needed one, too. Picked up a few more charms, whenever I spotted them on sale.

Resulting in more charms, than can comfortably fit on my bracelet. While this isn't one I wear every day, I thought you might enjoy taking a peek at it. It's a little delicate, but the memories are indelible.

Would you be surprised if I told you, my girls can confidently locate me in any aisle at the store, from the 'jingle jangle'?

Do you have a charm bracelet?

Your charm bracelet is so sweet. How fun! I'm enjoying all your colorful charms. I especially love knowing that your bracelet makes lots of jiggly happy noises too. Many years ago, Mary Engelbreit featured in her Home Companion magazine a story on charm bracelets. That Christmas my husband surprised me with an adoption charm bracelet while we were waiting to travel to China. It's still one of my favorite bracelets.

OH indeed I do! My sister and I both had one growing up, my mother always bought us a silver charm for every occasion, and on every trip we took. Good memories :)

I loooove your charm bracelet! So colorful. I have one from way back in the day, when I was in my twenties I bought charms that related to my life, e.g. piano, typewriter :) thimble, and my favorite, a cable car from my San Francisco trip. It was so much fun collecting them and I'll always keep it. Thanks for bringing back the memory! Mary

I was just looking at charm bracelets earlier today! When my daughter was 4 I bought a charm bracelet and have gotten a few charms here and there for it. I plan to surprise her with it on her 16th birthday - only 3 years to go! :)

I love charm bracelets. My best friend and I started a charm bracelet for her daughter and my granddaughter (they're best friends) when they were little and we noticed that we loved collecting, wearing and matching more than them. So what were two middle aged women to do.... Well start our own matching charm bracelets. We're doing the Brighton ones but I'm really loving your sweet one. Thanks for sharing.

I have Mother's charm bracelets, not as colorful as yours; one is silver, the other gold. Dotted here and there may be a colored rhinestone, or a small pearl. I was fascinated with them as a child, but they were not fashionable when I was a teen, so I became disinterested. When I look at them today, I remember the stories my mom told me about each charm, and how each had special meaning. To me, a charm bracelet is almost like a sampler, or perhaps to what some people today view in a tattoo, symbolizing or representing something special in the wearer's life. I love them, too. I haven't looked into charms for a very long time. From yours, I see that there are lots of choices for charms. Thanks for displaying your pretty bracelet(s)!

Such a sweet melody your charm bracelet must give to those who are within ear shot of you! How nice for your girls to each have one, too. I have a few charms, but, never a charm bracelet. I have had fun looking at each tiny charm...Oh, how wonderful that each one holds a special memory!
I love your darling blog...It always puts a smile on my face!
Blessings,

I have more than one...no surprise. My ocd can only handle one idea on one bracelet at a time. One from college full of garden implements. One that houses a charm each year that we have been married. Then a couple years ago the pandora bracelets came out and the kids talked the husband into one...it is too heavy to wear. I do not wear any of them but I love them just the same. Yes they make lots of noise and they snag every cardigan I have tried to wear with them? Smiles...Renee

I can remember my mom putting on her gold charm bracelet any time she and my dad would go out when I was a kid. I loved looking at all of them.

Now, I have two silver ones. One from my mom, who buys me a new charm every year, and one from my MIL, who put on several charms when she gave it to me. I love them both, but the charms from my mom always have such thoughtful meaning behind them. Which is the beauty behind the concept I think.

You mentioning your recognizable jingle reminded me of my mom's brass bracelets that she always wears. I'd know that sound anywhere and have "found" her in public restrooms because of them. :o)

This is very sweet. You get to carry some of your favorite things everywhere you go. I do have a couple of bracelets with charms, but not ones that I added to. Your post makes me want to run out and get one. :-)

Molly, I think I can out do you!!! One filled with charms from Mary Englibreit, also on that bracelet everything I love from gardening to animals to hobbies. I also have a silver one with all of our dogs on it with names and dates. A very special bracelet with handmade charms for specials occasions. The artist lives in upstate New York. Two Pandora bracelets that are completely filled. One bracelet I made with all the funky charms from Michael's, very retro. And, a Barbie bracelet. I'm not going to get into the charms with special sayings I pile on a chain and wear as a necklace :) Debbie

Molly, I forgot to add my Mom's Grandma bracelet. When she passed at 93, I cut all the charms off and put them in lace bags and gave them all back to family members. They all loved receiving them, and put them on their bracelets. Memories of my Mom. Debbie

Your bracelet is absolutely gorgeous :) I started a charm bracelet for my dd using the traditional sterling charms...this year she turns 21 & next year she graduates college so that's 2 more charms we'll add to it.

My mother had a wonderful charm bracelet when I was growing up. My brother loved it because he could hear her coming up the stairs. It became a joke in our family and at one point he even bought her a mini cow bell charm that actually rang for her bracelet. Good memories!

I love charm bracelets! And what a lot of gorgeous charms there are on here!!!
I got a gold one for my 18th birthday. I've been a bit slack lately with seeking out new charms. But I have ones to remember by 18th and 21st by, one from my graduation, and a couple from my wedding. My favourite is a little church - you can open the bottom and see the people inside. :-)

How darling is your charm bracelet?
I do indeed have one, but mine is completely silver. I remember very covetously playing with my mother's, which was filled with charms from her birthplace, her marriage, our births, and our travels. So many beautiful charms to look at and ask the stories of. Around age 9, she bought me a bracelet of my own and started my collection. Today, (almost 20 years later) it is still a prized possession and my own daughters now finger the charms and ask to hear the stories behind them. I haven't worn it recently, having small babies does not go well with the constant jangle or the hardness of silver on the wrist, but soon I'll put it on again. And I think this Christmas may be a perfect time to started my oldest daughters own collection. :)
