easter prep

It's Easter, peeps!

Absolutely one of my favorite holidays. From a religious perspective, Easter is a spring festival that celebrates one of the central tenets of the Christian faith: the resurrection of Christ. It's the oldest Christian holiday and the most important day of the church year.

From a personal perspective, the imagery of baby bunnies, chicks, pretty tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils, beautiful baskets filled with the soft colors of Easter candy, is absolute perfection.

All year long, I stockpile Easter themed goodies.

The white bunny lanterns are from Martha Stewart's holiday line at Grandin Road.

I like having my chicks all lined up in a row.
As do my friends...

Kim,  Musings from Kim K., was kind enough to send me a few darling items for Easter. Including, a vintage bluebird sewing card, hand-felted egg, and a whimsically crafted wee favor basket.

The little pink bird atop the felted egg is such a sweet detail. Thank you, Kim!

I was the lucky winner of Ms. Helen Philipps' recent give-away. A sweet Greengate tin, flower pins,  floral buttons, and a clever pin cushion in pretty spring-like colors made its way here safely from England. Thank you, Helen!

Last Easter, Julie Collings was kind enough to send me a box of fun Easter crafting items. I saved it for this year, and what fun to open the box. Everything you need to craft some darling favors. Thank you, Julie!

Are you getting your craft on for Easter?

Hi, I've been visiting your blog for awhile now and I'm amazed at how consistent you are with some of my favorite colors. Thanks for showing us your finds and sharing other things of your life, and I also appreciate the links to other similar and nice blogs...oh, and also the tantalizing discovery of Cath Kidston who got an order last night from me, just because of you! Not exactly Rachel Ashwell, very unique as a stand-alone retailer, but reminiscent, and is all of which I love, love, love.

I'm a bit out of touch; didn't know Martha Stewart had a line at Grandin Road. Glad for that tip; love the bunny lanterns.

I wanted to leave one more comment about how much I've enjoyed viewing the photos of your daughters' amazing playhouse. I personally, even though I'm a mature woman, would love to live there! You have it decorated so beautifully. The things you do for your girls will never be forgotton in all the many years ahead. Their overall surroundings seem bright, with "happy" colors, order and cleanliness; balance. Just my impression. I've seen children live in chaos of clutter, and it reflects in their studies and behaviors (not for the good...nor is it good for an adult, either). When I was a little girl, my best friend next door was a little boy, but he had a big sister I idolized and she, being the only granddaughter and showered overwhelmingly with gifts from her wealthy grandparents, had more toys and fun things to play with than my less-monied parents could ever afford to buy for me. I was the recipient of her Barbie Dream House, which made me the envy of the neighborhood. Anyway, the most treasured of all possessions was her custom-made playhouse which was laboriously moved from another city and set upon the top of this backyard's hillside so that, not only could it be easily eyeballed from the parents, it also had the best view of the valley and mountains to the south. It was a sturdy wood house, painted cornflower blue...and the wallpaper inside was pale yellow with blue cornflowers dotted across it. There was a door we could lock, and workable, framed glass windows with ledges deep enough to hold our pretty bottles, dollies, etc. It was much smaller than your fantastic little house, and it was only one story but, oh, did we while away the summers in that playhouse! Another friend had a playhouse that was less decorative, but its appeal was the ladder to a loft similar to yours. In "nursery school" (which is what we called preschool in those long-ago years), was my other beloved playhouse which we reached via a brick path from the patio where we did our fingerpainting on easels. This playhouse had fluffy cafe curtains over the kitchen "sink," there was a pretend-washing machine, a table and tiny chairs. "Next door" was our grocery "store" with shelves of make-believe canned goods and boxed treats. As you can see, 55 years later, I can remember it all as clear as a bell, and with great fondness and gratitude for an imagination-filled childhood, so I applaud you for doing all you do to make your daughters' lives so special.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Easter goodies....It must have been torture to wait a whole year to open some of these boxes.....I just miss Spring in Seattle, green grass and tulips, crocuses' and Daffodils....Spring in Alaska is dirty cars, dirty snow and smiles on all our faces that winter is winding down to an end! My princess is home sick from school today so we have been decorating......I just hate that my kids are growing up.....Have a extra Happy Easter!
