All she wanted was to be on the team. Try-outs were hard. She practiced and practiced the convoluted dance routine. Up way past her bedtime, she kept at it, till she could do the routine fifteen times without a single mistake.
At her Middle School, Poms is the team to make. Poms, or the Dance Team, had over forty girls trying out for only eighteen postions. Six from each grade of the school. Results posted on the door of the school for everyone to see.
Devastated, when she didn't make it.
The following year, she tried again. Practice, practice, and practice some more. Arms aching, concentrating on sharply executing every move. Willing to fail, but hoping not to...
So happy to say, she made the team.
Saturday, they placed second in a major competition. Only four points behind the first place school.
Congratulations, Miss Mary Kate.
We're soo proud of you, and your talented team.

What a wonderful lesson in getting back up and trying again, isn't it? Must remember this...
Such a wonderful thing to try and try again. She will be so much better having worked so hard to get the achievement. Well done Mary Kate. Smiles...Renee
Yay!! :o)
Oh I miss those years when Meghan was on the squad. Still keeping her cheer outfit just because it makes me smile to look at it!! Congrats and have LOTS of fun.
Happy dance!!! Love this sweet story...you both have something to be very proud about! Way to go. Hugs to you for a super day. xoxox
Hip Hip Hooray! Oh, how this resonates with me. I was always on danceteam, tried out for cheerleader one time on a whim to do something different and didn't make it. I was crushed. Then I tried out for danceteam again, making co-captain and on to make the All-Star team and to be an instructor w/ their camps. I sometimes can't help but wonder if it was the teachers who judged who knew I was best suited for danceteam or if it was just meant to be. Needless to say, I can appreciate MK's effort to be brave and try out again and I think it's a wonderful foundation for things to come. Congrats to her!!!! xo
great lesson in persevearance (?)
One that my #1 could do with learning...his current motto?

What a cute post. I know the devastation that occurs when they don't "make" the team. My daughter didn't make the team, but she grew up to become the pom coach at a state university and owner of her own dance studio.
