spring me

A light exists in Spring
not present in the year
at any other period
when March is scarcely here.
~Emily Dickinson

Are you ready for March? I'm beyond ready.
Snow and sleet in the forecast. Again.
 I'm so over winter.

Good-bye, February.

H e l l o...
March.

time it

Time is the longest distance between two places.
~Tennessee Williams

A year or two ago we upgraded our stove.

A commercial-quality one with convection, as well as conviction.
No one mentioned the fact, that it was timer-less.
To the timer aisle, I went.

I had high hopes for Ms. Martha Stewart (above, left).
Accuracy in regards to time, is apparently not among her virtues.

Next up, Mr. Michael Graves (above, right).
All style, and no substance.

All problematic, especially when baking the proverbial cake.
Stopped in at Anthropologie, and found this sweet little magnetic timer.
 I'm hoping, this time...
I'm lucky,
 and my timer actually times.
Speaking of lucky, have you entered yet?

blue shoes

'The time has come', the walrus said, 'to talk of many things:
of shoes and ships- and sealing wax- of cabbages and kings'
~Lewis Carroll
A new pair of cornflower blue shoes.
A big smile on someone's face.
Miss Frances Rose wants to know,
have you entered the 'one fresh give-away' yet?
I hope you have a delightful weekend.
 Ours is a four-day one,
my favorite kind.

one fresh give-away

A year ago, Mary Kate talked me into starting a blog.
 I didn't know what I was doing...
It's a year later, and I'm still learning and looking for ways to improve. I've so appreciated all of your friendship, helpful comments, and support this year. It's time for me to give you a little something in return...

Four things, to be exact...
Cath Kidston's Make book, Cath Kidston's Mending Kit, an adorable CK mouse pin cushion, and some sweet heart straight pins.
In no time at all, you'll be whipping up projects like this adorable embellished straw tote.  Have I mentioned I've a thing for straw bags? Maybe you do, too...

Or, how about some sweet little felt egg cozies? Perfect for Easter.
It's just what you need this Spring, to put a little fresh spin on various things around your house.
 I'm here to help, peeps.
Now for the technical part...

One winner will be chosen at random on February 25, 2011. In order to win, simply leave a comment. If you're a follower, leave a second comment. If you feel like posting about this little give-away on your lovely blog, please leave a third comment.

That's three chances, and you never know...you just might get lucky.

And, yes, it's open to international bloggers, too.

heart posies

Stopped by the Antique Market yesterday, and found these pretty Royal Adderley posy place card holders waiting for me. They're in nice shape with a lovely vibrant color.
Sending you warmest wishes for a day filled with lots of love.

Look for a give-away later this week,
I'm celebrating the one year anniversary of birdie blue.

v-day

There is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.
~Jane Austen

The middle school Valentine's dance is tonight. What to wear, who to go with, and what if, my goodness,  you get asked to dance? All the little details worthy of careful consideration...
My youngest daughter had her party yesterday, and loved every minute of it. I think Valentine's day might be better for those three and under. They're pleased with the littlest things. Thrilled to frost a cupcake, craft with feathers and pom poms, and hand a valentine to their pals. Angst-free.
I hope you have a happy, fun filled Valentine's day with your sweetie.
I can't wait to read all about it.

If you have a moment, take a peek at I Love Pretty Little Things.

gifted

Fifty-some years of marriage. No children. Alone, but happy.
Occasionally, they need a little help.
A trip to England, to celebrate her eightieth birthday.
A little Herend pitcher brought back and given as a thank you,
for keeping an eye on their home.  I'm loving the little details on the 'vine' handle.
Sweetest neighbors ever, don't you think?

l o v e

My husband worked late the other evening.

Checking on our youngest, Rosie, who was soundly asleep,
he slowly opened her door.

Peeking up at him through her partially closed eyes,
she softly whispered,

'd a d d y...
I been missin' you'.

Happy Monday, my friends.

paper roses

It's all I have to bring today
This, and my heart beside
~Emily Dickinson

A wreath of paper roses that I found years ago. It had slowly faded till the roses were almost colorless. I painted the edges of random flowers with some watercolor paint and added a little sparkle glitter.
It's all about the sparkle, don't you think?
There's a considerable amount of snow outside, and school is back in session.  Rosie and I are busy putting the finishing touches on her Valentine's Day party.
It's going to be sweet.  'Pin the Heart on the Froggie', anyone?
I hope you have a lovely weekend filled with lots of fun.
Please join me at  I Love Pretty Little Things, for Friday pretties.

snowed in

Surely as cometh the Winter, I know,
There are Spring violets under the snow.
~R.H. Newell

Baby, it's cold outside. Predictions of -15 below tonight, and no, that's not the windchill. A Civil Emergency has been declared and roads are closed throughout the county.
We're nice and cozy inside this morning. Marveling at the snow piled up on the windows and enjoying a nice breakfast of homemade french toast.
There's snow to be shoveled, but not just yet...
there's nowhere to go, and nowhere we'd rather be.
