Trying to get organized, I started packing boxes of things to bring to our local charity thrift. If we haven't used something in more than a year, out it goes. At least, that's the idea. Of course, while at the thrift it's imperative to take a quick scan of the shelves just in case...
That perfect set of Pyrex primary mixing bowls from the 1940's is just languishing on the shelf. Would you believe that's one of those things I always look for but, hadn't ever had the luck to find? At least, not in my price range. Until today.
Spotted a Delphinium Blue Hall dish/planter, a sweet baby blue planter, and a pretty little posy, without a chip. I collect posies, and let's just say finding a vintage one in perfect condition for a dollar, is an infrequent occurrence.
Last, but not least, Cornflower Blue. A while ago, my mother-in-law gave me the two covered dishes, which I use all of the time. We don't have a microwave and they're stellar for reheating all kinds of things in the oven. The coordinating salt & pepper and pitcher/dispenser were serendipitously waiting for me.
I'm thinking I need to get 'organizing' more often.
What's the one thing you're always on the look out for? Do tell.
I'm joining the fun at the following:

I just love all your photos. Have the same pyrex. Never seen the S&P shakers before.

My friend gave me the very same Pyrex set for my wedding last month only it doesn't have the red bowl. How cool! Great finds!
I'm completely GREEN with envy on your Pyrex mixing bowls. You lucky lucky girl!!
Is it not the most fun to find such wonders on the shelf at the local thrift for pennies. Gorgeous....smiles...Renee
They look so cute with your polka-dots!
LOL, My aunt collected a set of those bowls for both my brother and i about 10 years ago. She was going to give them to us when we had out own houses, etc. When I remind her of this, SHE HAD NO IDEA WHAT I AM TAKING ABOUT! I guess she realized just how much she loved them. :)
I do love Pyrex...I have collected so many pieces and my sons both want them now, so I gave some to them too! I just located a Corning Cornflower percolator...it is ready on my stove now!!
wow! good for you...great finds!! i love pyrex. i want some of those glass covered refrigerator storage square/rectangle containers...am currently on the lookout, as well as for vintage feed sacks (for pillows).
hope you have a great weekend!
you're daughter looked darling in your other post...the back to school one.
:)
What beautiful pyrex. My sister in law gave me that same set of bowls for my birthday and I just love them. Have a wonderful weekend.
You will have to come by tomorrow and see what I picked up at a thrift store the other day....Where I'm from, pyrex is available for quite cheap. The highest I've paid thus far is 3 dollars. Hope it stays that way,,lol. I usually pay between 25 cents to 1 dollar for them.
I found 3 of these stacked together at a thrift for 8 dollars and then found the missing one on ebay. Love them. Now am looking for a set for my daughter who loves vintage too. I love to read your blog!
I just found one of those cornflower blue casaroles at a garage sale!! My mom had those so they bring back nice memories! I would love to find some primary Pyrex. The antique shops are full of Pyrex but I'm waiting on the thrifts to have them.
I'm always on the look out for anything that strikes my fancy! ♥
What a wonderful find, You really were so lucky to find such a beautiful set...at the thrift store! I looove my set of Pyrex bowls (like yours), I also have the Pyrex picture too! My post is about my Pyrex and change...Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs
Oh my goodness, I remember those bowls. I had the same set I think, at least some of them. I wonder where they went???
Nice things, nice colors and nice home philosophy! What more?
You and I are on the same pyrex page my friend...I just bought myself some the other day...I only collect the aqua and pink...love it! My collection is small but it is slowly growing! Pyrex is getting a bit pricey as it increases in popularity ...especially around these parts. xoxo
You found some really lovely things!! Especially the cornflower. I LOVE those!! I found a few pieces last year, at a wonderful antique/vintage store in an Amish town about an hour away from where I live. I really want to go back... sigh I need longer weekends so I can do all the things I want to do. Maybe I need to retire from my job and have 7 day weekends. ;-)
I love your vintage finds! I have a Spice O' Life set of pyrex dishes that I got as a wedding gift. I still use them all the time...more than 30 years later! :)
Your daughter's embroidery projects are so sweet and charming. Very talented and beautiful! Those books you found are amazing too...What a great find!!
Have a happy weekend, sweet friend!
xoxo...Gloria

Great finds....but let's get back to "we don't have a microwave!". How do you do it? In my opinion the best 2 inventions in my life is my microwave and my curling iron!!
Your blog is fabulous. Love all the color. Just makes you smile the first second you see it. The yellow Pyrex bowl meant mashed potatoes were heading to the table at our house. Thanks for the memories.
I just love them all!!!!
Have a great week
OH I am so jealous! I'd love to find a mixing bowl set like that. Currently I am on the lookout for a white enamelware pitcher, some enamelware mugs and am always looking for a good milk glass piece to add to my collection.
What a great image, I just couldn't figure out what this was supposed to be! I have a set of bowls that were my granny's. I use them everyday! thanks for sharing these at VIF, xo Debra
Gorgeous finds!Loving your blog, it's sooo pretty!!
Love these. I have a few - the Dutch girls are my favorite and my yellow mixing bowl.
The thunking sound you may have heard was me falling out of the chair at the thought of finding that Pyrex set at a thrift store. What an unbelievably excellent find!

I am so jealous you find the most nicest stuff!!
I'm "organizing" my cupboards today to see what treasures I find (maybe I'll be lucky like you)
