birthday angels

As many of you know, I've been blessed with four daughters.
Their birthdays fall in May, June, and July.

We've had all kinds of birthday parties over the years...

Garden parties, fairy parties, gymnastic parties, cooking parties,
book themed parties, pool parties and the like...

Some of them were rather exhaustively elaborate.

But, the best parties are the simplest.

Where the food is delicious, the company your nearest and dearest, and the birthday girl is thrilled with a homemade coconut cupcake. I'm trying to keep that in mind, as my littlest one has her birthday next week.

What shall we give to the birthday child?
A blessing, a kiss or a golden ring?
A kiss lasts only a second or two,
The ring is lost ere the year is through.
But the blessing of God is a precious thing.
So the blessing of God is the gift we bring.
To the child that is gentle and sweet and mild,
To the dear little, good birthday child!
~Alice Corbin

The vintage Birthday Angels are by Josef. They're the original ones, not the later reproductions. I've one through five, and I admit, I'm sorely tempted by the idea of six through sixteen. Maybe one day, they'll find me.

I'm joining the fun at the following:

I have all 16 of the originals. In a box. In the garage. I was JUST talking about them yesterday for the first time in years. Funny. You've made me consider digging out the first three for my daughter.

Darling! What precious keepsakes for your girls. I adore their sweet faces! You never can tell which birthday parties your children will remember the most. Many times it is the simplest ones they are the most fond of...:)

Happy Birthday to your girls!

xoxo...Gloria

Oh I love those!!! My cousin had them when we were growing up and I must admit I had a little envy over them back then.

My boy's birthday is next week also, he is turning six... So bittersweet.

I have my own angel given to me by my grandmother, although I think they are a bit different than yours. I am 55 years old so it is very much an antique, then I purchased one for each of my grand daughters, daughter and daughter in law and sisters, I even found one boy, praying for my grandsons.
They are all very sweet.

I understand your temptation! I've been tempted to collect all of the birthday month angels. All I need is just one more room added on to the house, and then I can get started!

Aw, how sweet! I had one little angel like this when I was little. I was so upset when the wings broke off, so my mom glued them back on...upside down :) I think I was even more upset about that :)
Blessings,
Marcia

One of the best things about blogging is to be able to travel worldwide without leaving your chair and seeing some of the prettiest parts of someone's life!

love the colors of your world :))

I couldn't agree more. No need to knock yourself out when the little ones appreciate the simplest of things anyway. Happy Birthday to all of your girlies! xoxo

Those are the sweetest birthday angels! Took me awhile to realize that that simplest birthdays were ok too! Infact way less stressful and they are just as happy. Cake with family and getting to have a few friends to stay over. Although if I had girls It might be a little harder to keep it simple. Princess, tea parties,garden...

Have a lovely day!
