On a sunny afternoon,
there's no place she'd rather be...
Up the ladder and into...
The loft, kicked back with a favorite book.
I thought you might like a peek into the upstairs of the little house. We built the house a few years ago from scratch with the help of a friend. I drew the design on a piece of paper.
Its exterior is clad in white stained cedar, and the interior consists of individual slats of beadboard painted a high gloss white. The front door is an old exterior door from the main house cut down to size. The screen door was custom built, as the doorway is just shy of five feet tall.

The windows are fully functional, and thankfully have screens. Bees aren't particularly welcome in the little house. Outside, yes. Inside, no. The shutters are handmade from cedar. The window box is green enameled metal from Martha Stewart's defunct Martha by Mail Catalog.
Our four girls have spent hours out here in the summer doing crafts, reading, and playing make-believe.
The garden has a way to go yet, it's been so cold this spring.
It's hard to be patient, isn't it?

My Goodness! I cannot get enough of your playhouse. What a dream house for little girls. When I was little my Grandma had a little, little playhouse in her back yard. Just one little room that felt like the best spot in the whole world. My cousins and I spent hours in the boiling heat in that little house. Amazing memories!!! One thing that she made SURE was in that little house was a picture of Jesus. :)It makes my heart hurt thinking about it. We LOVED our Gram.
I just need to ask you one thing after reading this darling post!
here goes.....
WILL YOU BE MY MOMMY?
that is the most precious place...I surely would not want to come into the 'real' house unless dinner was ready!
ciao bella

It is wrong of me to be jealous of a little girls playhouse? Because I am!
I can't tell you how much I love this little house!
Have a pretty day!

You know you are my new favorite blog! I love to come over here and see all the bright colors! I have worked on my shed and my kids' tree house for months and the goal is to make it brighter! I think in my attempt, however, (with dark wood) I am making it cluttered! Thought of you when I did a brief post on my shed to enter Centsational Girl's Outdoor party! 'A Cath Kidston' inspired shed! Now. I only have a few of her bags, but the bright colors inspired me to make it more floral and bright! Just love, love, love your girls place to dream and be a kid...away from all the technology of blinking things of this world! Have a great day! Christie at Three Pixie Lane
makes my heart ache!

Wow. Just. WOW! It's perfect in every way! Love it! What a magical place!
That is spectacular! I would love a little house like that for myself. :~) Wouldn't it make a great studio! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment about the covers and becoming a follower. You're blog is lovely as well! Great stuff!
I love it so much, and can completely see how your girls would spend hours and hours in it. Just seeing that Pippi book reminds me of all the Pippi books I read and my girls too. What a perfect place to read about her when you are in your own little house - just like Pippi (well except Pippi had a horse in hers ;)
Have a great weekend!

Love this little house~its just so sweet! Thanks for sharing this at FNF :)
I always wanted to have something like this for my daughter. A play house for when she was younger and then a quiet retreat when she was older. I never got one made but I still love to look at them. Thanks for sharing your little house. Katharine
This is so fabulous I don't even know what to say. I love everything about it.
my husband has been building one for our kids too but it still needs windows and a door before I can paint it - he is so busy it is taking ages but seeing these pictures just shows the potential - I must start nagging again!!
it really is beautiful
Wow, the little loft is so nice. Can I move in? ha,ha,ha
