This doll furniture is one of my favorite vintage finds. I found it at a yard sale. The elderly lady selling them said they were made by her grandfather in the 1920's. She was very firm on her price. I regretfully left the sale without buying them, because I felt it was more than I could afford.
When I mentioned them to my husband, he was all in favor of buying them. I asked him to stop on his way home from work, and see if they were still there (and maybe lay on some charm). Long story short, he came home with the two sweetest little pieces of handmade doll furniture.

The original paint is one of my favorite colors, eau de nil. The finish is more than a little distressed, or should I say 'well loved'. A lot of scrubbing with some Murphy's Oil, and it's all good.
The little wardrobe was stocked with a bunch of handmade doll hangers in four different sizes. It's the little details that make me happy.
Works perfectly for the girl's extended family of Groovy Girls.
Rosie is busy applying multiple layers of cherry chapstick...
she doesn't yet know when to say when.

I am not into doll houses like this. I never had one. Mine were made up from what I could and a lot of pretending. These pieces look just like big folks furniture. I can see why you wanted them. Your hubby really blessed you that day.

Oh, my! Molly, these are just the most adorable and precious finds!!! Your photos of them just add to the vintage charm! I adore that last picture of Rosie putting on her cherry chapstick! :) The photo of the baby doll in the little highchair is as cute as can be!!! Beautiful paint color, and your button wreath adds the perfect touch to it all!!!
Awesome find. And I am so glad you included the photo with the child for scale. :)
Sometimes I feel we are guardians of treasures from the past (As this is one example). Our art museum has some larger decorated Greek vases from over 2000 years ago. I stare at them and think of the generations of people who needed to cherish and treasure the fragile vases for over 20 centuries - I'm guessing that would be 60+ Generations, despite moving, wars, famines disease, not to mention tastes changing and the object needing to be kept out of harms way and accidents.
I am proud of the lady insisting on a good price, since elevated pricing is one way of ensuring that an object will be cared for. I am a huge bargain hunter, but there are sometimes when I want to bargain with an owner when I intentionally pull back, bite my tongue, back off the bargaining and pay what they want. This might be an 'income' for retirement; and/or letting the person know you will value their prized possession (sometimes expressed through a higher price between strangers, however crass or simplistic or direct that may seem)
I also feel that it ISN'T always sad that a prized possession isn't handed down to a relative. I like 'pretty' and historical objects. How often I hear people advise me to 'de-clutter'. If you haven't used it in the last three years, get rid of it. Yes I have more to dust then they do, but sometimes I see a decorated space and feel it is kind of boring and kind of souless... (Not the rooms I see on these blogs, people, where each $5 table is carefully repainted with hours of work!!) Rooms need objects with interest and beauty reflecting the interest, taste, and/or ingenuity of the person who lives there.
Sorry for the long note. You touched 2 chords here I have opinions about, and I feel I am finally in a safe group of like minded individuals in this internet crowd who cherishes things. And I wanted you to feel good about paying more then you wanted to for the find you found, and will now be a custodian for a while. You made that lady feel good - which can sometimes be priceless.
These pieces of furniture are soo cute! I love the color
Wonderful pieces! Glad you got them, they are just wonderful, love the color.
